As Believers in Jesus Christ what is the “purpose” that God the Father wants us to be driven by?

The focus in the church and Christians today is “service” toward our communities, hurting Countries, and on an individual level; “state of mind” or our view of ourselves and how to make us better human beings. None of this is “bad”.  In fact, it is a wonderful thing to have compassion and empathy toward our fellow man and Gods creation and to reach out a helping hand. It is also a good thing to want to do and be our best.

The big question I have is, is this the focus and “drive” God designed for us to have?  Is this His “purpose” for us?

I know after much study and heart rending soul searching… this is not the case.

It is God’s desire to have a lasting relationship with every one of us. That is why it is so important that we Talk To God as often as we can!

From Genesis to Revelation, the purpose of God is to restore “relationship” between Him and man. That is why He gave His only begotten Son to die.  He died in our place.  Why?  The Bible says there is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood. So God made the way to restore communion with Him by the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. Those who accept His sacrifice could once again “commune” (have a personal relationship) with Him as He did with Adam in the garden before Adam sinned. The Bible says that Adam walked and talked with God in the garden. This is not figurative…it is literal.  Before Christ came, relationship was kept by the shedding of the blood of animals.

If you study about Cain and Able (Genesis 4) you will discover that the sacrifice and offering of Cain was not acceptable to God because it was an offering of Cain’s own work and toil.  Cain believed he had earned God’s favor because of his own hard work and the giving of good things.  Able however, brought to God a sacrificed lamb in which he was saying to God, “I deserve death, and here is my substitute”.  The Bible says God had respect for Able’s offering, but not Cain’s.  And we know that because of this Cain hated Able and killed him.

I hear no one in the church today talking about “communing” with our God.  Is it because we don’t believe it is possible anymore?  Do we just think talking to God is a one way conversation and He simply hears and answers?  This is not the heart of God or His purpose.  He wants a RELATIONSHIP with each of us individually.  He gave His Son to accomplish this.  The Bible says God speaks to us in a still small voice and what He says to us personally will always measure up against the Bible which He gave to us as His written word to measure all things. If you make it a habit to Talk To God on a daily basis.. you will soon discover the difference it makes in your everyday life!

If our drive for purpose is not a relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then the true purpose for living our life is in vain.   Without this relationship, all of our “good” deeds are absolutely in vain in light of eternity.

God longs to commune with us!
